The Blue Eye Bristletooth Tang, also known as the Two-Spot Bristletooth Tang, is a beautiful and hardworking addition to a marine aquarium. Its subtle brown-to-orange body is covered in intricate blue markings, while its brilliant electric-blue eyes give this tang its unmistakable appearance.

As a member of the Ctenochaetus genus, the Blue Eye Bristletooth spends much of its day cruising across the rockwork and glass, using its specialized bristle-like teeth to graze on algae, detritus and organic films. This constant grazing behaviour makes it an excellent addition to established reef systems where natural algae growth is available.

Blue Eye Bristletooth Tangs are generally reef safe and will not intentionally bother corals or most invertebrates. They are typically less aggressive than many larger surgeonfish, although they can become territorial toward other tangs—particularly other bristletooth species.

Provide plenty of mature rockwork for grazing, open swimming space and strong water movement. Their diet should include marine algae and nori, supplemented with spirulina-based foods and quality frozen or prepared marine foods.

✨ Interesting Fact: Unlike many tangs that primarily crop larger algae, bristletooth tangs use rows of specialized flexible teeth to continuously scrape fine algae and detritus from reef surfaces—making them one of the reef tank’s hardest-working cleanup crew members.
