The Powder Blue Hybrid Tang is a rare and spectacular naturally occurring hybrid between the Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon) and Whitecheek/Goldrim Tang (Acanthurus nigricans). Each individual can display a slightly different combination of traits from both parent species, making these hybrids especially unique.

Their coloration can include gorgeous shades of powder blue, deep blue-black, yellow and white, often with a distinctive blend of facial and body markings not seen on a standard Powder Blue Tang. As the fish matures, its coloration and pattern can become even more impressive.

Like its parent species, the Powder Blue Hybrid is an active, powerful swimmer that requires plenty of open swimming room, excellent water quality and strong water movement. It will spend much of the day grazing throughout the aquarium and should have regular access to marine algae and nori.

Powder Blue Hybrids are considered reef safe and generally leave corals and invertebrates alone. However, they can be territorial toward other tangs and similarly shaped fish, particularly once established. Careful planning is recommended when keeping multiple surgeonfish together.

A varied diet is important for maintaining excellent body condition and coloration. Offer nori and other marine algae daily, supplemented with spirulina-based foods and high-quality frozen and prepared marine foods.
